Observations in the Airport
Here we are at the Los Angeles International Airport. Fifteen minutes
until we need to go join the mass of human beings downstairs at the
ticket counter. Are they all flying on the same plane with us??
They are probably looking at each other and thinking the same thing.
I have only slept about 5 1/2 hours the last two nights, so perhaps I'm a little scattered and fuzzy, but if I can make myself learn to think when I'm tired, than I'll be able to think better when I'm not, right?
When I have nothing else to do, I can enjoy the mentally stretching process of observing and analyzing myself and everything else around me. Airport layovers are absolutely perfect for this.
Now I will ascend one of my favorite soap boxes...
Here in just one terminal of the airport, there are multiple huge posters of the same seductive EsteƩ Lauder model with the caption "Re-Ignite the Youthful Light of Your Eyes". Of course, you must buy the advertised product, which happens to be a Night Repair Cream Serum.
ADVERTISED IN MULTIPLE GIANT POSTERS??
NIGHT REPAIR CREAM????
There are people dying all over the place who could care less about night repair cream. In fact, I'm pretty sure night repair cream never made it on the list of things that could really benefit humanity in any way. Why is it the biggest thing in the room to look at?
The posters were written in very basic English along with Chinese subtitles, so it was obvious what audience they were catered to. I actually felt rather indignant for the Asian people (and everyone else) who were being insulted with such propaganda. Is the youthful light of the eye the most important thing in the world? And why should anyone be deceived into spending + $60 on a small bottle of chemicals, most of which are probably toxic to the human body. (does that sentence need a question mark? My punctuation skills are failing me.)
*sigh*
Besides, the model is definitely photoshopped, and she probably doesn't even use that night repair cream. The light in her is the reflection from the studio lights. And, how is putting something on your skin going to put a light in your eye? Shouldn't they just make contact lenses with sparkles in them? Or put the night repair cream in the eye? I know that logic is silly, but I think it matches the advertisement, if you really stop and look past the gorgeous model to analyze the real message.
If you, Asian person, use this night repair cream, you will most certainly become beautiful just like this Caucasian model, no matter how old you are. You can be her for only $60!! Amazing they sell it for so cheap.
Sorry friend, they lied to you. You can't actually buy anything that will put the youthful light back into your eye. (If you really want it, you can get it for free somewhere else, though. But hush, it's a secret...that wasn't actually ever supposed to be a secret)
Personally, I am at war with any kind of normal cosmetic or soap. For a long time now, I've gradually stopped using cosmetic products, and now I only put things on myself that I could actually eat without fear of bodily harm. Really, whatever you put on your skin is going to be absorbed into your body, so why would you put on lotion or use shampoo that has ingredients you wouldn't be comfortable eating? Call me extreme, but someone has to do it. : )
Another thing I have noticed, during the several hours I have spent sitting in airports in the last month, is that 99.9 % c. people walk by setting their heel down first and then letting their toes drop.
The only people that didn't were little children, who danced and ran with high energy. They put their toes down first, dropped the heel, and then bounced back up with the toes.
And I wondered, is the way we have learned to walk as adults detrimental to our health and energy? We wonder why we have so many back problems, and aches and pains...and I wonder if those aren't things that can be reversed by learning to walk differently?
So I try to make myself walk like the little children do, and (I don't know if it's just in my mind or not), although it's harder work using different muscles, and makes me feel like I'm either doing the cat walk or prancing like a racking horse, I actually feel more energetic and strong. Hm. It's worth a try, I guess. Plus, when nearly everyone is doing the same thing and experiencing the same results, someone needs to try doing it a different way to see if it's possible to get different results.
Another thing I have noticed about people is this: No matter how different you look from anyone else, you are not really remarkable unless you smile.
Everyone is unique and has their own style, but they are all vastly an unsmiling lot. I can understand; this world doesn't offer that much to really smile about anymore. Thankfully, smiles are contagious, and I am determined to help start an epidemic of mass proportions.
But really, at the bottom of a real smile and the youthful light in the eye is the peaceful trust and happiness that comes from personally knowing the love of Jesus. He's the Source of everything happy. (that's the secret)
